My timing belt went out and I had to replace my belt and valves but we ran into a problem with how to align the cams so it wont mess up the valves there isn't a mark to see what goes where and the Haynes repair book is not helping so I was wondering how does it go back together it is a 4 cylinder 16 valve

There is two solutions, one is spend 16 dollars and get one year access to complete manual on www. Alldatadiy. Com, get registered, and purchase vehicle you need, and you'll get a lot more information than you'll ever needed, that will cover every thing you can think of on that vehicle, like how to replace timing belt, and how to Aline, and where all marks are located. Option two, I know for sure, after you have access to timing belt, which you need to take right tire off, little plastic cover that covering pulley, then you'll need to jack it up your engine from bottom, and take engine arm mount, on top passenger side, then lower engine, remove crank shaft pulley, remove timing belt cover, replace timing belt, temporary put back crank shaft pulley, remove spark plug from outer most cylinder passenger side, that's cylinder #1, put in cylinder long screw driver so it reach piston, and slowly turn your crank shaft, until screw driver reach top point, then check marks, one mark located on crank shaft pulley on top, it's a little grove, and on engine block a little tap hole, and other mark should be on cam shaft pulley and all so on valve head a little tap hole, if with cylinder up and all marks are not aligned, make one more rotation, then check, other way make them aligned.

How do you determine TDC of number 1 piston? What timing marks are to be used on the cam gear and crankshaft gear and what position? Also, how do you determine TDC on compression side versus exhaust side?

Put the no.1 piston on its compression stroke by cranking the engine in bursts till you feel pressure pushing your finger-here your finger has to be atleast 6inches long to seal the plug hole lol-try to seal it with something-when you feel the pressure STOP. line the markings at the damper to TDC/0-open up the distributor cap-the rotor should be pointing at no.1 cap tower. To verify your on compression stroke pull the valve cover both valves should be closed on no.1 cylinder. If it is-your Online

This morning I was in rush so I started my Camry' 92 millage of 160K and move to the road without heating my car at 35 degree F and it stop on the middle of the road. Now if I start it looks like almost starting but it is not. Now my question what is wrong wiht this car now? Can you tell why it is like this. Is there any chance that timeing belt has gone? I am waiting for answer.
I will donate soon.
Thanks

To check if the timing belt is gone remove the distributor cap and crank engine over is the ignition rotor turning if not its gone. If it turns do below

Put engine no.1 piston on its compression stroke/TDC and line the cam and crank markings -loosen the belt tensioner then slap the belt on -adjust the tension.

Hi there, I recently had to change the distributor and timing belt in my daughters 90 model camry. I set the camshaft/crankshaft timing. When I put the distibutor in, what direction should the rotor cap be pointing? It can be 180deg out, does this mater? Thanks

Set No. 1 Cylinder to TDC on compression stroke.
Align cutout marks of coupling with line on housing. Insert distributor, aligning center of distributor flange with bolt hole on block.
Tighten hold-down bolt.
