1997 4Runner w/179800mi. At highway speed if I stomp the accelerator and kick into passing gear (say above 4000rpm) when I get off the expressway engine will stall. If I hold down gas pedal at about 1500rpm while in neutral it wiill stay running, but a little tough to brake and accelerate and then bang into gear to go. Any ideas? (Other than not stomping into passing gear) Also, can anybody tell me what is the purpose of the bolt going thru tranny tailshaft bracket from bottom up into the bottom of tailshaft? Toyota says it isn't there but I assure you it is. Got a wicked vibration I can't track down. New ujoints and shaft re-balanced, new tires and retightened bracket bolts. Thanks for your help

Is the check engine light comming on during any of this? The bolt may be a tranny mount, at least that's where most trucks put them. Vibrations, have you checked the frame itself? Toyota trucks are known for rusted frames. If no check engine light check you throttle bore for operating without stickin, clean it with TBI cleaner. Check for stuck EGR pintle. Also there was an upgrade to rear leaf springs, did yours get it?
