I've noticed several other posts from mid-90's 4 runner owners about this same problem. But no answers. Someone please offer a place to start looking for a solution! The problem: after getting good and warmed up on the road, when you begin to decelerate like stopping at a red light, rpm's fluctuate unnaturally, engine runs rough and dies. It will start right back up, but if you can't accelerate immediately, it dies again. Solutions we've tried include checking for trash in the gas tank, clogged fuel filter, new plug wires, injector cleaner, adjusting idle. What next?

You may have a vacuum leak, get a can of spray gumout, spray the vac lines and maniflod area, when the idle changes, youve found the leak! You want the engine running and spray on the outside but do direct the stream onto the hoses, if it is a vacuum leak, the engine idle will change speed, then you have detected a leak, repair the vacuum leak and see how it runs!
Check the idle air control, it's on the side of the throttlebdy.
