Been having overheating issues. Thought it was leaks from coolant hoses. Replaced thermostat, replaced water pump, fans weren't kicking on. Hot wired fans to switch and to battery. Now I replaced coolant sensor and purchased new fans to replace and connected them back to connectors. Temperature gauge shows when it was exceeding high temperature not it just shows normal levels but inside the vehicle when temperature placed on hottest and full blast of air still cool never as hot as it use to. On a GA16DE GXE.

Hi,

If you aren't getting heat in the vehicle, it can only be a few things. There could be an airlock in the heater core, the blend air door may not be working, or it's low on coolant.

Start by looking through this link:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/car-heater-not-working

If that doesn't help, do the following:

1) Start the engine and turn the heater on high. Allow the engine to reach operating temperature.

2) When it reaches temperature, feel both heater core hoses under the hood where they attach to the heater core at the firewall. (see pic 1 for example)

3) Check if the hoses are both hot.

If one is hot and the other isn't suspect a plugged heater core or an air blockage.

If both are hot, then we know hot coolant is flowing through the heater core. Thus, the heat is in the vehicle but not being distributed. That leads me to the blend air door.

On this vehicle, the blend air door is actuated by a cable. You will need to locate the cable behind the controller and follow it. Check to make sure it is not broken or out of adjustment. I have seen the cable come off the mount near the blend door and when you adjust the door, the cable moves and not the door.

I attached a pic below (Pic 2) showing the cable I'm referring to. For some reason, the manual doesn't provide the other end of the cable. That is why I recommend tracing that cable.

Hey Joe, I followed the cable and watched as I changed the temperature back and forth I can see the cable and the groove the plastic piece that rotates, so doesn't look broken or adjustment. But I don't really know if the door is stuck or even opening.

Okay. Are you able to disconnect the cable and manually move it by hand to see if you then get heat?

Let me know.

Got the evaporative off and can clearly see and turning from cold to hot that the flap or large screen that covers the heater core and I also notice a smaller spring and pipe that shows movement when switching from cold to hot it must open the coolant through the pipe and funnels through allowing the heated fluids to distribute but didn't see anything until I removed those two hoses and found pieces of the end that had broken off and was blocking the flow not entirely which explains that air still works but wasn't fully flowing through. I took out of the pipe but guess I have to make sure non is further in the pipe before it clogs up even more. Unfortunately I wished it had also answered why my new fans I just put in don't work. I had replaced the coolant sensor less than two months ago. And the thermostat was done early Summer. The old one was heavily caked. And I had flushed the system twice.

Hi,

Nothing in my manuals show a heater control valve, which sounds like what you are referring to. Can you take a pic and upload it for me to see it? However, if you see something that is plugged, that is certainly a problem.

Also, which fan was replaced?

Let me know.
