My cars driveshaft snapped in half the other day while I was sitting at a stoplight. After the replacement my car makes this noise while steering. What is it?

Hi,

When it failed, did the axle spin and hit anything under the vehicle? Is there any evidence that the axle may have hit something?

The noise you hear, does it come from under the dash or does it seem to come from under the front end. Is it loud enough for you to record and upload for me to hear?

Let me know. Note: This has electric power-assist steering. The system has an electric motor on the steering column. If the sound is coming from inside the vehicle, see if it is the motor.

Also, pay attention to where the clunk is coming from. Have a helper turn the steering back and forth while you listen outside the vehicle to pinpoint where it's coming from.

I attached a pic below for you to see. I highlighted the motor.

Let me know.

Joe
