Car suddenly wont start. I have a new battery. It starts but cuts off immediatly. I had it scanned and it said there was an anti-theft issue. Can you please help me?

Hi,

Lets first confirm the security diagnosis. What I want you to do is turn the key to the run position (engine off) and allow approximately 10 minutes to pass. The anti theft light should turn off. If it does, see if the vehicle starts and stays running.

Let me know what happens. Please note that if this is the case, I will need to know the exact diagnostic trouble codes that were found when it was checked.

Let me know what happens.

I have tried the relearn method with no success. I also changed the ignition switch which didn't change a thing. I'm really stumped. I feel like I have tried everything. Car has been down for 2 weeks now. My wife has to take uber to and from work everyday. What a pain!

Okay, the problem is directly related to the anti theft. See pic 1

There are two ways to relearn the new switch. One is with a GM tech 1 scanner and other hardware or you can try it manually. The manual way is similar to what I told you to try, but adds more steps. I don't know if you tried this technique. However, it is right from my manual. If this doesn't work, it will need reprogrammed by a shop or dealer with the proper tooling. Try this if you haven't already. It requires a minimum of 30 minutes without a scanner.

30 Minute Learn Procedure
1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON. The vehicle will not start.
3. Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock(TM) Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.
6. Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock(TM) Sensor Data Code and/or password.

IMPORTANT: The vehicle learns the Passlock(TM) Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.

7. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. History DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles.
