Intermittent no start

Once and awhile four times in the last six months when I turn the key to start it it will not turn over. The dash lights will come on, after I mess around with trying to move shifter, taking the key out and re trying putting into neutral several times it will start. Put a new battery in six months ago. I rebuilt ECM five months ago. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi RINKER96,

Well it sounds like your starter motor is starting to fail. If you have a digital volt meter or test light, when the problem happens again here is what you will do.

Have some one hold the key in the run position when the car does not start and have them hold it. Measure for battery voltage at the solenoid wire or probe with test light and verify it lights up. If it does get that signal then the starter will need to be replaced.

I believe it was the starter motor that was bad in this case. Here is a guide that will help you see what you are in for when doing the job.
