Been having on going issues with starting my truck. All indications showed a bad starter. I replaced it with one from salvage that tested good. And the truck started right up. I started it and let it run for a few minutes 3 times over the next 2 days with no issues.
Today it started up good, and ran good. Drove it about 5 miles to the store, and 20 minutes later no start, just click. Had the battery tested, it tested bad, replaced it with one with a higher cca rating the one that I had. Same thing, click no start. All the dash lights come on the nav system starts up in the on position, but when I hit start everything goes out, nav system dash lights all of it. Dont know where to start, can you all help?

Hi,

If you have power and lose it when the starter is engaged, you have a loose or corroded connection. Although the battery is new, make sure the terminals are clean and tight. Also, check to see if the main ground to the engine block is clean and tight. One last thing. If you do this at night when it's dark, you may actually see a spark where the problem is located so try that as well.

Let me know what you find, if you need help, or just have other questions.

Take care,
Joe

Well I got out there this morning and checked all of my connection, and grounds. Everything was good except the positive battery clamp.
The cable was loose in the the connector, and there was a bit of corrosion. The corrosion extended at least an inch down the cable, that is as far as I stripped the insulation. Probably goes all the way down. But cleaned the end of the cable, replaced the clamp. Started the truck and took it home. Guess I need to replace the whole cable now.
