Firstly let me say this site is a GOD send, I thank you profuselyl. I had a check engine light come on, took in for diagnostics and they replaced my fuel cap. The next day, the light was back on. On that day and a few days later problem #2 arose: I tried to fill up from a half tank and the pump keeps kicking off. Have tried to get gas 2 times now. So I'm not sure where to turn and if I should go to another repair shop instead.

The first thing you need to do so I can help you is go to a auto part's store like auto zone and have them scan your car for code's and let me know what the number's are.

Thanks so much per your request, I went to the nice folks at Autozone who used the code reader and told me that even though the SES light is on, it threw no codes. I forget the exact verbiage it said but the guy said that it indicated it was "all clear, no warning lights on". Also I went again on a half tank to put in gas only to find AGAIN the gas pump kept kicking off again as if it were a full tank I was trying to refuel.

Those things considered, I thank you so very kindly to pick your brain on these quandaries! ;O)

If the check engine light is on you should have code's especially if the gas pump keep's kicking off. So is the light on now?I had a vue that wouldn't take any gas like yours and come to find out someone tried to steal the gas by running a piece of hose down the fuel filler neck restricting the flow of gas in the tank causing the pump to keep shutting off. You have a problem like that or your gas tank vent isn't working correctly. So we have code's or we have something restricting the flow of fuel into the tank or a web blocking your vent.

YIKES, sorry 2 hear that someone was actually stealing your gas---wow! Sickening. I am sure that's there is something going on w/ my fuel system, but I doubt any one'se stealing the gas. Of course who knows.

All I do know is:

Yes, my SES light is still on. I watched the guy hook it up to my car & he showed me the message when I looked bewildered & the reader basically said all was well.

Before I started having THIS issue, I did have 1 instance of starting it up cold, and it died as I was pulling out of the drive. It wouldn't restart, so I left it for several hours and the problem never repeated. So, my repair shop read the SES which indicated the stall but gave no details more than that, and the other code led them to the fuel area, so they tested the EVAP system, replaced the fuel cap and now I can't fill my tank and the man I've had deal with thinks I'm a stupid woman who doesn't know how to fill my own gas tank. So I'm at a loss as 2 my next steps aside from trying another gas station when I have room in the tank to refill.

Thanks for your input.

About the stealing gas that was a customer's vue that came into the saturn dealer I worked at. With out code's your just going to have to look for a blocked vent or a restricted filler neck that's about all I can think that would cause your problem.
