Hello!
I'm having my 2002 Saturn Vue worked on and I'm afraid I'm being taken advantage of in this situation. My service engine soon light is on and I was told it was my thermostat. I was trying to get my car inspected, but it won't pass unless I get a new thermostat and a new gas cap. I'm told that it will cost me $615 plus tax to fix both. I now know the parts don't cost that much. So, my question is, how long would it take to replace the thermostat and gas cap. My dad told me it shouldn't be more than a hour or so, but the dealership has had it for two days. Is it hard to get to the thermostat? I would appreciate any advice you have to give.
Thanks,

Yes, first of all, I never recommend going to the dealer because of what is going on right here, the labor, for this job including warranty is 4.4 hours, now times that by what they charge an hour is what you should be paying, accept they will charge triple what the thermostat costs in a parts store and the same thing for the gas cap, never ever go to a dealer.

Hello I just replaced my thermostat and it was a project. It took me about 12 hours to do myself and cost $26.00 but didnt know what I was doing. I think you would get a better deal if you took it to a local garage and told them to change the thermostat. As far as the gas cap you can buy one at the auto parts store for about $10.00 and put it on yourself just by changing it.
