Transmission problem
1999 Saturn Sedan Automatic 111000 miles

Hi there, I am not very car saavy, so pardon my ignorance on the issue.
About 5 months ago, I bought a '99 Saturn Sedan that now has about 111,000 miles on it. I've noticed that it would occasionally bump while accelerating and one night, on a particularly long drive, it began doing it very frequently. It had never done it more than once a trip and now it was going every couple minutes or so. Some of the shifting bumps were a little more aggressive than others, too.
I took it to the shop immediately and they checked my transmission fluid to found it full, but it was black. THe guy mentioned something like my car was having trouble "seeing through all the oil" so it was "upping the pressure." I don't know what he meant, sorry!
A transmission flush was suggested, but I've heard it can make the situation a billion times worse by loosening built-up gunk and getting things clogged.
Should I just empty and replace the fluid?
Should I go with the flush?
Should I go with a flush and a filter change?

Thanks for all your help!

So when you say it's bumping while driving do you mean it's shifting hard? Also I would just change the fluid and replace the filter. The fluid should be changed every 30,000 mile's if it's black then it's been in there a lot longer then it should have. As far as that guy saying it's having trouble seeing thru the dirty fluid I hope he was just joking because otherwise that would be a stupid thing to say. But if it is shifting hard then he is right about the transmission having too high of pressure. So do you have a delay into reverse when you shift into reverse? Also do you have any trouble code's in your transmission?

Occasionally, it will take a second or two for the car to actually switch to reverse when I shift into reverse.
And yes, it is shifting hard. That is what I meant.
I don't know much about transmission codes, sorry. Is there something I can look for or ask someone to find for me?

Yes you can take your car to a auto part's store like auto zone and have them scan your car for code's. Let me know if you have any code's if you do I need the number's.
