Coolant temperature guage code

I have a 1997 saturn SL 1 with the 1.9 sohc. It has nearly 139000 miles on it and while it smokes and burns oil, it runs great. The problem I'm having is that I'm getting a code saying my coolant temperature guage has high output (po118). I replaced the coolant temperature guage but I still get the same code. I have reset it twice but it keeps coming back after running 5 minutes or so. What else could it be?

Yes, that's what I replaced. Today The dealer told me to replace the plug also, but I just have a feeling that isn't going to do the trick. Also, how do I vote and what is it for? I'm new to this site.
