2000 Renault Megane wrong fuel added

My fuel tank was low, I added six gallons of diesel by mistake, the car still runs and drives but lumpy, should I run until empty and then refil with petrol or keep diluting whats in the tank by adding more petrol as I use whats in the tank. Mike

Hi there,

If your car has a drain plug it would be a good thing to dump the fuel, if not just keep topping it up and diluting it, you wont do any real harm, it may smoke I bit, if will be a good idea to change the fuel filter now, and again when it is clear of the diesel.
