Hi there,

944's have a real problem with the rear hatch seal, if the seal is in poor condition or the hatch is not locking down fully, you will get exhaust fumes being drawn into the cabin while you drive. The best way to check the seal is to play the garden hose around the seal, you will not need a lot of pressure and check for any seapage past the seal, if water is getting in, the exhaust will as well. If it looks like it's leaking have the seal checked for servicability and also have the hatch lock adj so that it is a good tight seal.

Porshe 944 has a hood seal just in front of the fresh cabin air box. You can see it (if it is installed) It runs across the chassis just forward of the windshield beneath the hood. It is forward of the battery on the RH side and forward of the fuse box on the left. When this seal is defective, engine (exhaust) smell in the cabin is typical. These seals are still readily available.
