my 84 carerra runs rough up to 3000 r p m s after that it smooths out. Any help

Do you have an after market performance cam in the engine?

Run a fuel system cleaner and check your plugs for fouling, also it can't hurt to do a compression test though it is probably a waste of time. You may also want to check the timing to see if it has been advanced or retarded for some reason.
