About an hour after I arrived home from work my vehicle made a loud popping sound then white smoke from under the hood. No warning no engine lights.

Hi,

This is an odd one because it happened an hour later. Did the smoke have a specific type of odor? For example, did it have an electrical smell or a coolant odor?

When you opened the hood, did anything smell hot or overheated? How much smoke came out? Does the vehicle still run?

Let me know.

Joe

The description sounds like an A/C system failure, either a broken A/C line or a failed hose that dumped the refrigerant out and you saw that with the oil mixed in. Or there was an electrical failure and it burnt a component but that would likely have had other issues prior to failure. I would go open the hood and look around. If it was the AC there will likely be an area that the oil sprayed and left a large wet mess. If it was electrical you won't even need to open the hood, it will reek like burnt electronics. Then it comes down to opening the hood and inspecting for the damage. Being it had sat for close to an hour it shouldn't be cooling system related as it should have cooled down enough to drop any pressure by then. Once it is determined what the failure is then you can work out a plan on repairs.

Joe, can’t recall a smell, just made a pop sound then white smoke. Smoke lasted just a couple minutes then stop.

Now this morning when I left for work the oil pressure light and check engine light came on. Park the car popped the hood, now I see oil on engine. I’m lost.

Hi,

If possible, have the computer scanned for diagnostic trouble codes. Also, take a couple of pics of the oil you mentioned.

Here is a link that explains how to scan the can-bus:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/can-scan-controller-area-network-easy

If the vehicle is drivable (make sure the oil isn't too low), many parts stores will scan the computer for you.

Hang in there. We'll figure this out one way or another.

Take care,

Joe

Where did you see the oil? Front or side of engine? Could you take some pictures and load them on this site of the sides and front of the engine?
As Joe said check the oil first, if it has oil but the light stays on don't run it or it could damage the engine.
