1997 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.4.195000 miles. We had an issue this morning with the battery and replaced it thinking we would be fine. After replacing the battery, we started the car only to find that it won't shift from park! We read the manual and it tells of the reset switch inside the gearshift, so we have done this also. Still no go. HELP! It feels as though something is blocking it from moving yet we opened the panel and can't see anything that could be the culprit. Any suggestions?

Until someone more qualified can help you.

When my shifter locked in park it was because I blew a fuse under the hood. Check the fuse block near the front under the hood. The fuses are really cheap at your local parts store. If they're all ok, try lifting that "reset" switch again, while shifting. I had to loosen the display panel and hold the switch as I pulled the trigger and shifted. Of course, I was also missing 1st and 4th gears while driving so, be sure the fuses are good.

I'm sure someone who has better ideas will be along shortly. :)
