Electrical problem
1999 Pontiac Grand Am 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 164xxx miles

I had a rather unusual start failure this moring and was wondering what you guys would think im still relitively new to vehicle maintnence. Im a helo mach and rebuild cars as a hobby. Well starting to. Still have a lot to learn. Any way. My car wouldn't start this morning. No lights no click Fuelpump nothing turned on. So I get my buddy over to jump me. Im in the driveway so I put the car in nuetral and back down the drive way and when I get in the car to hit the brakes all my lights are on and I was able to start. What is going on?

Start at the power source. Check the battery terminals to make sure they are tight and clean. Check the battery terminal cables to make sure none are damaged or in poor condition. Also, check the ground from the battery to the engine block to make sure it is tight and clean.

Let me know what you find.

I checked tha battery connections and the neg was loose so I tightened. The problem hasnt repeated. Yet at least. Any way It still just bogles me that power came back to the car after rolling it down the driveway a few feet. If the battery connection was loose and causeing no power then how can I get power back if I didnt touch the battery.

First, always start at the power source when you have an electrical issue. As far as power then no power, if the terminal was loose, it had a connection. However, when you hit it with a heavy draw, it couldn't take it and lost its contact. Let it sit for some time, you get the connection back.

Let me know if you have other questions, and I'm glad it's fixed.
