1997 Pontiac Grand Am 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I was just inquiring if any one has changed an engine in a 97 grand am with an older model 3.1(such as a 96 or95 model 3.1) My daughters 97 engine sounds as tho there are several rods pounding, and have a chance to get a 95 3.1, but was told it may not fit. Any info on what may need to be changed or if the transmission wont bolt-up or flywheel is different, just post any info you can help with. Thanks

I dont see anything that wouldn't fit right off.

What did your friend say wouldn't work out, and i'll take a deeper look in to it.

I was told that the heads are different between 1995 and the 3.1 years 1996-1997. Did not get any info if the flywheel and /or balance is different

I think there was a change in the intake manifold. But if you are swapping the whole engine, then it wont be a problem.
