For about a year now my heater only decides to work when it wants to last winter I got by with it, but I need to correct the problem. It seems as if my fan isn't working at all. For awhile there I could tap my steering wheel and the fan would kick on. Now nothing seems to work. Can you tell me what I can do to test this or repair it myself?

You need to start by finding where the power stops, a procedure and diagrams are available here:

May be the ignition switch and possibly a fuse as well besed on the symptom.
