1994 Pontiac Grand Am 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

When my 1994 grand am is ideling the exaust is making a poofing noise and the engine shakes every couple of seconds as its running and as I accelerate the gas the louder the exaust gets with the poofing noise.I have changed the plugs and wires less than a month ago.

Sounds like a misfire. Remove plugs and check for signs of misfire (gas, oil soaked).

Could also be a clogged convertor, in which case a backpressure test would have to be performed.
