Engine Performance problem
1989 Pontiac Firebird V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Hi. I have an 1989 Pontiac Trans Am with a 305 Port Injected Engine. Just had the tranny rebuilt, and put in a new starter, and Fuel pump. And I went to start it up and Its fine in Park and Neutral but when I try to put it in reverse or in Drive It Stalls out. I've been told that The exaust manifold is cracked and thats what is causing the problem but dont want to waste the money on one if its not a possiblity of that being it. What are the possiblities that it could be?

What is idle speed? Can you feather throttle to keep it going? If no jack up rear end drop into rev foot lightly on brake will it keep running and do wheels spin?

Idel RPM is around 750, and when The car is on jack stands it moves without a problem. I took it out the other day and It didnt stall once but It really wanted to I had to keep my foot on the gas at all times. It was really uncomfortable to press the gas and break at the same time. If you need anything elese answered just let me know

It ran Great until the Tranny went out. I have great fuel pressure minus the fact that I have to have the fuel pump on at all times. And it has great spark.

I'm thinking torque convertor is staying lockup mode so whenup in air it didnot stall. Either lockup or stator is faulty. When you get it to go does it pick up slowly? You know where three wire plug for TCC is on side of trans? Unplug see ifit quits stalling

What is the TCC? And yes when I get to finally move without stalling It picks up really slow. And I just replaced the starter if thats what you meant by stator. And if it is in Lock up is there anything I can do to get it out of it?

TCC is the lock up convertor the plug is on driverside if ECM is turning on then unplug see if that's it. No I mean stator it is in torque convertor and is a torque multiplier for acceleration. I think you need to return to trans shop and get this resolved.
