No one can seem to find the problem. I have a '97 Pontiac Bonneville that will just die. Try to restart & it will turn over but not fire. Radio, lights work but the power windows & locks do not. Once it restarts it seems to run fine, however if you try to roll down the window it dies again. It does not always start back up, usually have to let it set for a while, sometimes days then it will start right up. Any ideas? Please

Sounds like an electrical issue. Any codes set? When its not starting you need to check and see if your getting spark. It could be a number of things from crank sensor to fuel pump and everything in between.

Thanks for replying. There are no codes. My mechanic had it for days and once he was able to finally get to die he said nothing coded. He went ahead and replaced a coil & spark plugs & wires, but he is not finding a reasong on why it keeps doing this. What is so confusing is why the power windows and locks would not work when this occurs.

Yeah this is odd. I would still check to see if there is spark when car is acting up. You need to have a scanner on the vehicle and take a snap shot of parimeters when it happens.

I have the same problem with my 1997 Bonneville. Drove home the other week apparently ran out of gas could not start the next day until I put in a couple of gallons of gas. Once it started it had same symptoms you described. I have 249,000 miles and not sure I want to drop alot of money to fix it. Still a great car served us well. Did you ever figure out what it was?

After doing some more research it was suggested to check the "grounding wire under driver/passenger floor". I took my car to a mechanic who new electrical problems and he did find that wire to be bad and replaced it. I don't know bout you but my bonne seems to have a problem with water getting in. The entire floor seems to be wet, and I think that may have contributed to the problem. That issue has stopped, though I'm having another issue now that I think may be my oil pump starting to go bad. But, it no longer dies when I go to use the window, locks or defrost! I would check that out. It cost me $230.

Thanks for the info! I have the same problem with water. I used to think it was coming from the floor up now I believe the problem is with the door weaterstripping. Many thanks for the reply, I'll check out the grounding wire and hopefully my bonne will stay on the road for a little longer.
