When I turn the van on it makes a loud rattling noise. It continues when driving. The van does not over heat and the transmission is fine. It sounds as if a belt is loose.

What I want you to do first is take a rubber mallot and tap on the exhaust system. Usually a loose heat shield or catylatic converter will cause a rattle.

Let me know what you find.

Ok this morning the sound just poured out from the front wheel wells. When driving the noise is louder when I accelerate. I don't think it has anything to do with the exhaust.

If it is worse when you accellerate, then it could be a belt. Was it a squealing sound?

After further review I looked under the hood and saw some metal filings near the fly wheels. I could not see what was grinding. Any ideas.
