I was driving my truck and the radiator hose busted on it. I pulled over and cut the truck off. Popped the hood and found the radiator hose had busted. I replaced the hose, and added coolant. Drive it a little ways up the street and it was still steaming. I then put a thermostat on it. It is still running hot and steaming. I don't what else to do. Can you give me some pointers on what to do next before I put alot of money in getting it fixed?

Good morning,

I would make sure the radiator cap is good. If it is not releasing pressure, it will build up and cause damage.

You need to check the water pump as well to be sure it is circulating the coolant in the engine.

Beyond that, you may have damaged a head gasket from the overheating.

Thanks for the tips. How do I check to see if coolant is circulating in the engine?

When the thermostat opens when it gets hot, you should see the coolant moving in the radiator.

You will only see it circulate when the thermostat opens.

Quick question for you. Do You think $1,200.00 is too much to pay for my Rodeo to be fixed? I talked with a guy in my area and was told he would charge me $1,236.00 to change the valves, check the head gasket, buy the parts and to do the work at the shop. I been trying to look around and see if I can find someone else. Problem is don't nobody in my area really want to work on it.

For doing head gaskets, that is a good price. I would be cautious. What I mean is if it is going to be more, he needs to contact you and give you the reason and you should go there and have him show you the reason.

The normal price is about $1,500.00 to $1,800.00.
