I inherited this car from an aging parent, and the car did not get driven for over a year - everything is in great shape except the air conditioner is not working (just blows hot air) and I was told by a mechanic that it would need to be "retrofitted" to get it working - and that this would be very expensive - what exactly is involved, and how expensive would it be?

Hey Mary,
Retrofitting your A/C system means that a qualified technician is going to change certain aspects of your A/C system to accept and run with the new, environmentally friendly refrigerant (r-134A). He will basically flush the system, change the compressor oil and add special fittings for access. It can be costly, but far less if your were to continue using the older, more expensive refrigerant! (R-12) Let us know!

Chris
