Computer problem
1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 149k miles

Hey guys,
I have an old 93 olds cutlass sierra that actually runs really good with one small drawback as of late.

Sometimes for no reason the car will either miss for a few seconds then its fine for days or weeks and does it again and/or it will just turn off/die. This can happen at any speed even at a stop light. After it dies usually you can just re-start it again and be on your way for days or weeks and boom dies again. On the other hand it may be up to 15min before it will start sometimes and once again days or weeks before it happens again.

A friend of mine has the exact same car and was having the same exact problem and had the computer replaced and Im thinking thats my problem as well.

My question
Is this something I can replace on my own?
Is there a procedure I need to follow in order to do this?
Or is this something that a mechanic should do because of?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Before you replace the computer check your crank position sensor, and Idle air control valve, these are most likely to be the culprit

Will check those out as well and thanks.

Update.
Was driving it yesterday and the service engine light came on and it started running a little ruff but still had power but I pulled off the road and shut it off and immediately restarted it. The service engine light was off and it was running fine again.

Thought this info might help to narrow the problem down.

Any more ideas about this?

Another thing make sure that the plug wires arent arcing against the block, and check air tem sensor in the air filter box along with air filter
