1993 oldsmobile cutlis cierra, Engine cuts off when put in gear. Engine runs great in park and sometimes for a while while driving. Then it starts cutting off, but it will always recranks. Have replaced 3 coil packs, ignition module, crank sensor, harmonic balancer, mass air flow sensor, oxygen sensor, oil pressure sending unit, fuel pump, fuel filter, ecm. Has a 29 code in computer. I've had this car at two shops which has excellent techs. They have yet to fix my problem.

Check the fuelpressure it shold be 41-47 psi. Then clean the throttle plate on both sideswith choke cleaner they gunk up with oil from the engine. Make sure to check grounds especially the one that goes to the engine by thetrans. Code 29 is a trans shift problem wither the circuit has a bad connection or something is wrong internally. Make sure to clean the battery terminals as well. You also may have a bad ground going to the pcm.

Do you mean that I may have some internal transmission problems? There is a sensor in the transmission.

It could be a bad ground setting the code or a switch. Primarily that was a torque converter switch so the converter wouldn't lock up. Get your engine fixed first as alot of transproblems are from poor engine performance. If you get the engine fixed and it still sets the code then have it lookedat.

The engine runs fine. It will sit there and run all day and never quit, untill you try to drive it. I may drive it for 30 minutes before it starts cutting off. Then again I may get in and not get out of the drive way before it cuts off. I've checked all the grounds and found nothing. Could it be the prom chip?

I'd changet eh fuel filter and check the fuel pressure. You may be right onthe border line for pressure causing this. I woldn't normally suspect the prom. Fuel is more likely. Also clean the throttle plate on both sides iwth choke cleaner. The car will be hard to start after you do this.

Code 26 is a uad driver error. Most of thethings deal with circuit 422 which i'm sending a pic of. If there is a hsort in that circuit it will set alight as well as a bad ecm. You can take this to the tech and they should know how to check it out. This has tobe physicaly tested so I can't answer this fully. Make sure they are aware that this is an OBD1 system which i'm sure they are aware of. This can be a bad ecm as well but the it has to be chased down whether it's a bad connectionor shorted wire first.
