My first question is, at what point does the radiator fan turn on and off?

My second inquiry is, if the engine starts to overheat while driving does the engine automatically shut itself off to keep it from blowing up?

The fan kicks on when the sending unit gets to the point to turn the fan on, usually below 230 degrees. It also shouldrun when the a/c is turned on. There is a relay for th fan so you can check a fe things like if the fan is plugged in and the relay is good. And engine will not turn it self off automatically. However it will get so hot that it will no longer run until it cools down. If you stop your engine and you hear popping sounds coming from the radiator, make ABSOLUTELY NO ATTEMPT TO OPEN THE RADIATOR CAP AS THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION. IF YOU DOYOU WILL GET SEVERELY BURNED.
