Where is the oil pump, is it in the pan, and how hard is it to change?

Good afternoon,

The pump is external in the housing that holds the oil filter. There are 2 gears there that make up the oil pump.

The oil pressure relief valve is in the front cover which will require removal of the front cover.

I attached the procedure below for you for the repair.

How hard? If you have never done one, it will be hard. It is involved. The book time at a shop is 4 to 5 hours plus parts.

Thank you. I am not a mechanic I was able to do the fuel pump myself but this I might be better off at a shop. Solid engine at 220,000 still worth the investment.
