If my oil gauge goes from the middle of the gage to low causeing my oil light to come on only when I come to a stop but comes right back up to the middle again after a second or two. Does that mean I need to change out my oil pump or should I give the vehicale a oil change first. It is just a little pass it's due oil change.

Please advise

Thanks,
Val

Val:
When it drops, do you hear a ticking or knocking sound from the engine? If not, I would have you replace the oil sending unit. It is an inexpensive part that tells the gauge what the pressure is. It isn't uncommon for them to go bad. It will be located near the oil filter. It will have one wire going to it and unscrews from the engine block.

Let me know if you have other questions.
