At certain RPM the car makes a strange metallic ringing sound, like something is loose and vibrating quickly. Any idea what it could be? The steel mesh on my exhaust is completely gone I think from hitting a ramp a bit too hard.

Good morning,

Can you upload a video of the noise so I can hear it?

The converter shield is a common reason for the noise but need to be sure it is not something else.

I hope you can hear it well from the video. I had to feather the accelerator to make it make the sound, it happens more when everything is warmed up.

Sounds like you have a bad exhaust leak. Yes, I heard it and it sounds like the converter shield.

Look under the car at the converter and see if the shield is there and secure.

This is the cause of the bad exhaust leak.

It sure is. The flange broke holding the 2 pipes together.

You can buy just the flange and join them back together.

As far as the converter, I will need to see some more pictures on that part.

I don't think it's the catalytic converter, all the sound comes from the engine bay.

Could you maybe send me a link to the flange so I can order one? Will I have to take the exhaust off to fix that?

You need to go to a parts store and give them your information on the car and they will get you the correct flange.

No, you can do it on your car.

Take a close look around the exhaust manifold and down pipes for loose shields. After you fix the pipe. It could easily be that loose pipe is letting something on the exhaust vibrate because it isn't being secured with the pipe apart.
