Engine shut off while driving

I was driving and having no problems when all of the sudden the car kind of began to cut out then just stopped totally. There is gas getting into the engine so I do not think it is the fuel filter or fuel pump. Someone mentioned it might be the drive chain or the timing chain, but it will not start at all now. Please advise.
