When I put my truck into reverse all that happens is the engine revs when I push the gas pedal. All other gears work fine. There was no warning at all this would happen. I parked it at work with reverse working fine, and when I got off work it wouldn't reverse at all. What could this be?

Good morning,

Most likely the reverse clutch inside the transmission has failed. That would require the removal of the transmission and inspection for the failure.

How long since you changed the fluid and filter?

I just changed the fluid and filter. But it was after I lost reverse. It's my girlfriend's truck and it was her step dad's before her and from what I'm gathering it wasn't maintained at all.

I understand.

Sorry, no easy fix for this one. You need either a used transmission or a rebuild.
