The air was not blowing cool so I added refrigerant to required pressure. A few hours later while driving, I noted a heavy smell of refrigerant and then after, the air stopped blowing cool. What can the problem be? How do I fix it?

This is either a leak or the compressor is not shutting off and the pressure is getting too high, and the system is venting the Freon to avoid a complete failure.

This means we need to start with checking the pressure and find out what the level is.

Then we need to fill the system and get it back to the proper level and continue to monitor the pressure.

If the compressor is not cycling and allowing the pressure to drop then you need to shut the system off and find out why the pressure is continuing to rise.

More than likely this is a pressure sensor or compressor itself if it just runs continuously. If it is the compressor then more than likely it will not cut off no matter what.

Please run through this info and see the attached chart that will help with figuring out the possible causes.
