I have a 91 Nissan Pickup. No major problems really. I had the air converted over so it could be charged about a week ago. Ran fine. Unsure if this is a coincidence or not. Tonight went to start it and it wouldnt start. Cranked but no go. Noticed smoke from under the hood. The negative battery cable was smoking. Does this mean the battery should be replaced?

If it is cranking then the battery should not be the issue, although if it were smoking then it wouldn't hurt to remove it and have it tested at a local auto part store since most do this for free.

Check over your ground connections and other wiring to your battery first to make sure nothing is loose or cut. Then if that is ok you probably do need a new battery.
