Hi guys, my girlfriend was told by the dealer that she needs a valve cover replacement asap or it wouldn't be repairable. They quoted $1,450.00 - this seem very high! There's been no oil on the garage floor or smell of burning oil from the engine compartment. Does this seem right?
thanks, al

Just because no oil is leaking doesn't mean the valve cover is good, could still have crack and letting compression escape which could do engine damage. That quote is EXTREMELY high just for removing and replacing your valve cover though. Labor costs shouldn't exceed $300 and parts would only be around $50. May want to take to another shop.

Thanks, that's what I thought but they said they have to drop the trans to replace the gasket.

To replace the valve cover gaskets? Are you certain they are talking about valve cover gaskets?

Yeah, valve cover gakest and because the trans must be droped, the main/center gasket must also be changed - shops confirmed this and quoted $1, 22-1,400 - but how do we know it is even necessary?
Thanks, al
