1997 Nissan Maxima CAR PROMBLEM

My Maxima is hard to shift into any gears when the engine is on. When the engine is off you can change gears easily. There are no leaks and I just bleeded it and topped off some fluids. There is a noise when you are trying to put it in1st gear. Runs fine once it is in gear. So why is it hard to change gears

Hello,

Has the Clutch ever been changed? If not my guess is the clutch has done it job and time for replacement.
