I have replaced the mass air flow sensor in my 97 maxima 3 times. This is the sensor the scanner shows but my car is still not functioning right. Turns off when I step on the gas pedal and idles high when I turn it on. Also sounds as if its choking when it sucks in air. I also haven't done a complete tune up for over 8,000 miles. Wonder if it could have anything to do with whats happening, any ideas on what else in might be? I really appreciate it. Thank You

Hello,

This issue could be due to a faulty throttle actuator or the idle up control valve that is located on the throttle actuator.

Overtime those components will have dirt and debris buildup inside, which can trigger the high idle.

Cleaning out the throttle actuator and the idle valve can improve the idle quality.

Are you getting any check engine light? If it is illuminated, it will be a good idea to scan and retrieve the code(s). As this can help with diagnostics.

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
