I had a new clutch and pressure plate installed in my 2car. When I picked it up from the mechanic, the clutch was very easy to press. I immediately knew it wasn't right. It engages very close to the floor. I called the service department back and said it wasn't right and they tried to tell me that this is how a new clutch operates. I flat out told them "no, it doesn't"! It feels like a brake pedal when the master cylinder is shot. I have owned this car since it was brand new and I know that is not how it is supposed to feel. They also told me that there is something wrong with the transmission because after putting in all new clutch parts the car won't go into reverse. Well, I didn't have any problems with reverse before until the clutch went out.

is there something else they could be overlooking to get the reverse to engage?

Sounds like you are correct that this is not correct and when it doesn't go into a gear, normally first or reverse, the issue is the clutch is not fully disengaging.

There are a number of possible causes but I suspect the slave cylinder has air in it or is leaking now.

Here are a couple guides that will help with this:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/throw-out-bearing-replacement

Clearly they may need to drive it in order to see that it is not right so you may have to take it back.

However, I am attaching the info from the manual on the slave cylinder as I suspect this is the issue or at the least it needs to be bled.

Please run through this info and let us know what you find.

Thanks
