2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse Tattering sound

My car will not start and when I try it makes a tattering sound.

Please define Tattering sound. Where is the noise comming from? Did it die while you were driving or did u turn it off and it wont restart? Is it crancking or just clicking really fast? More info please!

Im not sure exactly just under the hood. I turned it off and it wouldnt start. Clicking really fast is a better way to describe it.

You have a dead battery. It probably has a bad cell. Get a jump and it should start.

All the electonics still work. I can turn the key and play the stereo.

I understand. It is not all the way dead but it is low. Try to jump it off of another car and tell me what happenes. When they go bad sometimes they will click realy fast but it wont have enough juice to turn the starter all the way over.
