1992 Mercury Marquis?

My car will start when it wants to. I turn the ignition and my car wont start. Aeverything lights up but it just wont start. U hear the full pump but it doesnt crank to start up. A few hours later or sometimes the next day it will start like nothing was ever wrong with it. Then I turn it off, and later try to start it, it wont start. U hear the fuel pump, but it just wont start. Can u help me?

I need you to check something. Have a helper turn the key to the start position while you check for power to the smaller wire on the starter. There should be 12+ volts. If there is and the starter does nothing, chances are it is bad.

Let me know what you find.
