1991 Mercury Marquis Car won't start?

My 1991 Mercury Grand Marquis will not start unless I jump it. It only clicks once and doesn't turn over. Once started it's fine though. Is this problem the starter or the starter solenoid or am I way off?

Do this have helper hold key in cranking position and bang on the starter if it engages the engine -get the starter checked out if not check the starter relay, park and neutral position switch and ignition switch
