2000 Cougar doors wont open!

My 2000 Mercury Cougar's doors will not open. Both of the doors are locked and they will not open with the key, the automatic door locks, using the door handle on the inside or using the manual locks. It is like the locks are stuck. Also the button inside to open the hatch will not work either. The last thing I noticed was the alarm light. It is usually off when driving and then when the car is off, it steadily blinks, but now the light is on all the time. The only way I am able to get into the car is by using the key to open the hatch and climbing through. The power windows work fine as well as the rest of the car, I just can't get the doors to open what so ever. Please help!

I just had the same exact problem. They claimed that an alternator went in the car, which was causing electrical problems. Before you spend the $ like I did on this, see if just changing a burned out fuse is enough.

Thanks cthewitt - I did check the fuse and it was not blown, but it was the wrong size fuse (too small) so we put in the correct amp fuse and the doors unlocked but then blew the fuse right after that. We have determined that there is a short in the wiring somewhere that is causeing the fuse to short.

My 2000 Cougar did the same thing and it was the fuse panel. The fuses were going one by one. Get your machanic to check your fuse panel to see if its going bad. I just had to replace mine because it was blowing fuses and shorting out stuff. Check that.
