My daughter's 1999 Mercury Cougar has been diagnosed as having the rear sub frame rusted into. She has filed a report with Ford and they say "tough" it is your problem. This is a structural problem and they say it is very expensive to fix. What is her recourse in this situation? This 12 year old Ford vehicle is undriveable!

Why would Ford be responsible for that? If you live in heavy rust parts of the country, that's not Ford's fault. I'm sure the car was exposed to some heavy salt for that to happen. You might want to get into the habit of washing your undercarriage occasionally.
