1994 Mercury Cougar white smoke smell like gas

I have a 94 mercury cougar xr7. It has 155k and it has white smoke coming out the back and it smells like gas. I thought it may be the headgasket but can someone give me there opinion.

Get a chemical test of your coolant for about 10.00 bucks. That will tell if head gasket is leaking. You can sometimes smell the coolant recovery tank. Also look at the under side of filler caps (oil/water) for milky substance.
