1991 mazda B2600i mileage: 200,000. I have to make couple start attempts before getting the engine to turnover. This problem just started about 2 weeks back. Any ideas as to the cause? Thanks Demiko

Might need new spark plugs. Check engine timing. Check fuel rail pressure. Does it run OK once it is started?

When were the spark plugs changed? The ceramic in the base should be brown. The metal electrodes should be square and clean. The gap between the electrodes should be 0.041 inches.

Is the air filter clean? Hold the filter up to a bright light. You should be able to see light coming through the paper filter. If you can't see light coming through the filter, the filter is too dirty and should be replaced.

Engine timing and fuel rail pressure can be checked but you need a timing light and pressure guage to do these checks.

Could be somewhere withing the stater control circuit-Ignition switch/neutral safety and clutch switch/starter relay/starter.

Check the coolant temperature sensor this is the one that demands for fuel for initial start-up.

Also the fuel pressure.

Is the truck automatic transmission or manual?

Quoting your first posting, "I have to make couple start attempts before getting the engine to turnover."

Are you saying in your posting that when you turn the ignition key, the engine cranks but won't start and run? Or are you saying that you have to turn the ignition key a couple times before the engine will crank?

When was the fuel filter last changed? It should be changed every 30,000 miles.
