Mazda B3000 Sport. Noise started as ping while driving. Now fairly severe vibration at higher speeds or acceleration, with louder noises at all speeds. Tail shaft seal leaking. Transmission seems to be slipping as well (for some time). Pulled drive shaft. Rear U-joint is worn; front is tight. Approximately 1/4 inch vertical play in tail shaft; slightly less horizontally. No end to end play detected.
Assume tail shaft bushing worn; possibly more involved issues in transmission.
Can tail shaft bushing be replaced without removal of complete transmission?
Opinions and recommendations greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much for your time!

Hi Darkstar027,

You can try pulling the bush (item # 5) out with transmission intact. Special puller would be required.

Alternatively the rear housing, item # 3 can be removed without complete removal of trans from vehicleto replace the bushing.

Do not forget to have the propeller shaft U -joints replaced.

As to the slipping trans, if the fluid level is orrect, it could mean more to come and the trans might have to be rebuilt.
