1997 Mazda 626 car only starts when headlights are on

I started having a problem with this several weeks ago. I have to turn on the parking or the headlights to activate the ignition other wise it wont start. I installed a new battery and checked to see if it was the nuetral safrty switch, also where would the hookup for the computer check is on this model, thanks norm.

I need some clarification on the problem.

If the parking lights are not turned on, what happens when ignition switch is turned ON?
Does the dash lights shows ?
Are you able to crank the engine?
