And won't rev. As if it's starving for gas. Can shut it off and crank it back and it rev fine take off and when it shifts it loses power. Doesn't spit sputter or jerk or backfire. Just loses power.

Hi,

When you lose power, does the engine rev but the vehicle not accelerate? If not, the first thing I suggest is to check the fuel pressure. It sounds like it may be weak.

Here is a link that explains how to check it:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

Also, I need to know if this is a 1.5 turbo or a 2.0L engine so I can get the fuel pressure specifications.

Next, I need to know if the check engine light is staying on. If it is, have the computer scanned for diagnostic trouble codes.

Here is a link that explains how to scan the can-bus:

If you are unable to do this, oftentimes, a parts store will do it free of charge.

Let me know.

Joe

No when it loses power it won't hardly rev at all. When it loses power the check engine flashes. I think it's a 1.6 or 1.8 liter. My friend pulled codes and it said number 2 cylinder misfire and mas air flow sensor. But when it does it you can shut car off and crank it back and it does fine until it shifts.

Hi,

The flashing check engine light indicates the misfire is happening at that time. It certainly could be related to the mass air flow sensor.

Disconnect the MAF sensor and drive it. Does it do the same thing?

The MAF is on the air filter box. See pic below. Try what I suggested and let me know the results. Also, the engine is either a 1.5 turbo or a 2.0L non-turbo. Please confirm that for me.

Take care,

Joe
